Notes - - Lucullus was detailed during the Civil War to care for families of soldiers in Washington County, Texas. But on 05 January 1863, he enlisted and became a 2nd Corporal under Captain L. N. Halbert, Company G, 23rd Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General John Sayles. Lucullus was a surgeon in the Confederate army.
- There was some overlap in Washington County, Texas for the 1870 Federal census. Lucullus' family, as well as his brother Leonidas' family, was enumerated twice. First 31 August, then 9 September.

L. G. Lincecum, MD, writing from TX to the Southern Practitioner, says: Permanganate of potash is a successful remedy. I have treated more than one hundred cases in TX, & have used whiskey, soda bicarb, spts ammonia, turpentine, chloroform, & other remedies, but have found that potas permanganas in one or two gr. doses hypodermically, and chloroform, locally & by inhalation, are undoubtedly the most certain & successful remedies in bites of venomous reptiles I ever used.
