      - Grabel enlisted in the C.S.A. 1 June 1864 at Noxubee County, Mississippi -- Co. F, 1st Mississippi Regiment of State Troops (Cavalry). He was honorably discharged "on or about the close of the Civil War." [Alabama, Texas and Virginia Confederate Pensions, 1884-1958 via Ancestry.com]

      - Per Lois Burkhalter's Gideon Lincecum (1793-1874) - pg. 240 - Gideon wrote to his nephew Grabel, possibly around 1866:
"Nor did [Gideon] Lincecum begrudge the time to write to three young men whose lives doubtless were changed and influenced by their association with him. One was his nephew Grabel Huckaby, in Brooksville, Mississippi: 'You desire to become a physician and to study that profession under me. Well, come on, and though I am not a doctor now you will find what you want with some of my sons. Lucullus is in the practice and will take pleasure in teaching you medicine.'"

      - According to the 1880 Lee County, Texas Federa census, G. E. Huckaby was married.

      - Grabel had a passport issued 21 January 1893 in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He promised to return to the United States within a year.

Description: 5' 8 1/4" tall; grey eyes; "grecian" nose; partly grey hair; and small mouth. ["United States Passport Applications, 1795-1925", database, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, FamilySearch, (http://www.familysearch.org), Image of application for Grabel Epluribus Unum Huckaby, dated January 1893.]

      - Grabel received a patent in 1912 for a "Roll for Cottin-Gins and Machines for Burring Wool."
1,039,946 / Serial No. 671,824 (Patent for a roll for cotton gins or wool burring machines made of rubber and coconut husks that pulls the cotton seeds or burrs out.)

"To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Grabel E. U. Huckaby, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolls for Cotton-Gins and Machines for Burring Wool, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to rolls such as are utilized in machines for ginning cotton or removing the burs [sic] from wool."

      - Grabel applied for an indigent soldier pension June 1923 (it was approved). This record stated Grabel came to the state of Texas 25 January 1869. He was there "when Lee County was organized in 1874." At the time of the application, Grabel had no home and/or property of any value. A witness to the application was J. S. Reat, likely his half-brother. A mortuary warrant added to the pension file states Grabel died at the Confederate Home at Austin in Travis County, Texas. Image of his death certificate (shared by RKMONTG342, owner of "Foster Family Tree" at Ancestry) shows he had been a resident of the home for more than two years. Cause of death was septic pneumonia.

      - United States Headstone Applications for U.S. Military Veterans, 1925-1949 via FamilySearch.org confirms information on tombstone.
