    • - Ellis made a career of the Army serving 28 years. He was in World War I and World War II...
      Ellis B. Tilley was commander of the 516th Quartermaster Truck Battalion. The 516th operated out of Persia from May to Dec 1943. They landed in Marseill, France in Jan 1945 and picked up new battalion trucks. The 516th took out immediately to the Ninth Army Front. Their line was first at Munchen, Germany. But the 516th assignment was to the advance section of the communications zone, supplying the First and Ninth Armies. As the Armies moved so did the faithful 516th, carrying rations, ammunition, and gasoline. The 516th operated with __?__ until V.E. Day. After V.E. Day the 516th moved to Belgium. They were assigned the task of moving 4500 tons of supplies from Antiwerp. to Verdum, to Rheems, and to Carelroi. The 516th remained there until Oct 1945, when it was returned to the States and de-activated. Ellis B. Tilley was Chief of the Retired Army and Assistant superintendent of transportation at the Gulf Oil Company in Houston, TX. Lt. Col. ELLIS B. Tilley moved near Boerne, TX. and built the "Have A No Ranch" and lived there until his death from a heart attack at age 69.
