HOUSTON, Texas (AP). -- A guard was wounded early Monday in a second shooting within 48 hours in the downtown Christ Church Cathedral, headquarters for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

...Mrs. Myrtis Jane Lewanna Hilton, 22, a nursing student, shot herself to death in the church Saturday afternoon as church women were decorating the altar for Easter services...

      Justice Blasts Pistol Purchases
HOUSTON, April 7 (AP) -- Justice of Peace Dave Thompson said today Dist. Atty. Dan Walton has "arbitrarily" decided the law requiring letters of good character in pistol sales is invalid, and is making no effort to prosecute cases filled under the law.

He said two recent suicides, that of a mother, 22, and her former boy friend, might have been averted had the law been enforced properly.

Thompson's blast was prompted by the fact that both Mrs. Lewanna Hilton, who shot herself Saturday in Christ Church Cathedral, and Darrell Dishman, who killed himself in a bar March 29, had bought pistols only hours before killing themselves.

[According to his certificate, Darrell Dewayne Dishman died of a "Gunshot Would of Left Chest." Place of injury was a "beer tavern" in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Darrell was born 7 October 1935 in Nebraska to parents Lee Dishman and Nellie Godfrey. Wife Carrie was the informant on his death certificate.]
