"John Strobia Reat came to Texas from Mississippi with his parents, J. F. and Elizabeth Lincecum Reat in 1874 when he was sixteen years old. The family made the trip overland in wagons and stopped in Travis County a year or more before they finally settled at Dime Box, Lee County, in 1876.
...They [John and Ada McGinnis Reat] lived on a farm at Dime Box twenty-eight years during which time eleven children were born to them, six girls and five boys...
...Seven of their children are married, four girls and three boys. Business has taken the two single boys away from their parents' home...."
- Per his 1929 death certificate, cause of death was "Thrombosis of Cerebral Artery," with age being a contributing factor.
