      [pg. 53] "George Hoffman, youngest son of BALTZAR HOFFMAN and grandson of GEORGE HOFFMAN, was born in 1780 in the old log house on the head-waters of Clark's Creek...He was a Captain of the 8th Company, Lincoln Regiment, and later was made Major in the War of 1812...He was one of the leaders in public affairs in his community and was very wealthy, indeed. He made his last will and testament in 1847, in which he well provided for his widow and each of his children..."
