COLONEL BIVINS DEAD.
President of National Bank of Cordele is No More.
Cordele, Ga., Dec. 28. -- Col. Joseph E. Bivins died at Dr. Allen's private sanitarium two miles from Milledgeville, Ga., at 12:30 o'clock yesterday.
Col. Bivins was president of the First National Bank here. He was a member of ex-Gov. Atkinson's staff.
J. W. Bivins, his brother, arrived at Dr. Allen's sanitarium only last afternoon with Col. Bivins for treatment, and left him apparently doing well this morning. The news of his sudden death was unexpected and a shock to his relatives and friends. Col. Bivins had always the prosperity and growth of Cordele at heart. He was instrumental and rendered ready assistance to any enterprise that would help to build the town.
Col. Bivins survived his wife about two years. He leaves a mother and several brothers and sisters, Rev. Lee Bivins, of Americus, and F. J. and J. W. Bivins, of this city, being his brothers. His remains will arrive here tomorrow afternoon, and the funeral and burial will take place here.
